The Visitor by Sheri S. Tepper

Sheri S. Tepper was one of my favorite authors as a teenager. I felt like it would be nice to go back and read her again. Particularly as it was a nice post-apocalyptic storyline. I found the first 100 pages terribly confusing. I've just gotten out of the habit of reading sci-fi and found the world building a little confusing and frustrating. Eventually when more was reveled I really got into the story and enjoyed it quite a bit. I felt like the ending was a little strange and a little weak. But overall it was quite enjoyable, though not nearly as good as I remember Beauty being.

The Golden Ass by Apuleius

We read this book for bibliogoth and it was recommended by beluosus. I thought this book was ok. I thought it started quite well, and enjoyed the first few stories. I enjoyed all the descriptions of witchcraft and really liked the setting of the city full of witches. It remineded me an awful lot of Xena (but unfortunately with less lesbian subtext). I started to loose interest with the story of Cupid and Psyche. Instead of being about interesting and different popular superstition it seemed to turn into a story very much like any other in Roman mythology. (Which I hate to say but I've always found rather dull). I also felt like the secound half became rather judgemental. Instead of enjoying the events, it seemed like he became much more moral and judgemental. I found myself loosing interest as it became less humorous, despite the "inter-species erotica". But then I think it picked up again for the last chapter and I enjoyed reading about the Cult of Isis quite a bit.

Neil Gaiman The Eternals and 1602

Borrowed these from madda_gaska. It was nice to read some graphic novels again. I definitely prefered 1602. I've not read Marvel superhero comics before. But with so many films these days it was easy to figure out who was who (mostly). While not as dark or touching as Sandman it was still an interesting and fun read.

I thought the main idea of the Eternals was a little silly, I suppose it had been adapted from a much earlier Marvel idea and thought that really showed. There were some fairly interesting bits thrown in but for the most part I found I had a rather hard time caring about what happened. Definitely not Gaiman's best.
