So I have two sisters: the good sister, studying for her PHD in environmental science, and the bad sister who just got a diploma from a bible college in applied theology. I found out the other day that it is the new life goal of the bad sister to translate, from the original greek and hebrew, into British Sign Language (BSL) the entire bible!!! Now the bad sister took a course in greek at school, but 3 weeks later could not even remember the alphabet! And didn't learn the capitals, which I believe is what they wrote the new testament in!

But more importantly than that, deaf people CAN READ!!!! They are DEAF not BLIND!!!

Who'd want to go searching through hours and hours of video tape, (perhaps made Slightly easier by a dvd) to find the right bible passage, when they could just go look it up and read it for themselves!

Now my sister does have a degree in deaf studies and I do not. So maybe she knows that if you learn BSL as you're first language it's much easier to see it that way than to read it in a book. But somehow I doubt that!

I have heard that this project has already been undertaken in America with ASL, but have no idea the degree of it's success. Oh and as a final note I thought I should add that the reason the bad sister has her degree in deaf studies, was because she failed her sign-language interpreting exam twice, and couldn't get her degree in sign language.

Sometimes I worry a bit about my family....
