What an odd bunch of days I have had! Bill's mom, her current husband, Bill's younger brother and sister came up to visit us for two days. I'd never met them before. His mom is a little nuts! I've never seen anyone come close to a nervous breakdown at the idea of having to pay for parking in advance before. We had to take them round Seattle and show them the "sights", even the ones we hated, and made Bill physically ill. The only good part of the trip was making it to the sci-fi museum where the Alien Queen and the power loader from Aliens now live. Seeing them was the closet thing to a religious experience I've had in years. I wanted to sacrifice small children in front of them. They also had some costumes from Babylon 5 which were cool, as they actually looked better in person than on the show, which never happens for costumes!
The day after the trip I had to go on my staff retreat for my work. We went to this hippie commune on the Olympic peninsular. It was not terrible, I work with some pretty good people, we got our 19 year old philosophy major puking drunk on PBR, (he only had 6). But I was nice about it, making sure he drank water, and didn't pass out in front of the toilet. But it was scary coming back, as even after just 2 days, West Seattle started looking like civilization when we got back to it! I missed civilization and Bill.
I do however have a new favorite author to add to the list. Last night I started reading Evelyn Waugh's Vile Bodies. I can't remember the last time I've laughed out loud so many times reading a book. It doesn't seem to contain any physical descriptions but it HILARIOUS. I got about third of the way through, and think I will have to try and finish it tonight and tomorrow. Definitely going to try and find some more by him at Powells on saturday.
Tonight we'll be heading over to The Crescent, for Dame Jackie Hell's kareoke night. I'm glad my month of not drinking is at an end!
