I had a very nice actual birthday. I had to work the overnight that it started. So at midnight I opened the birthday present from my dad which turned out to be the 600 page book on Kwan Yin that I've really been wanting to read. So that made me happy and I started reading straight away, so far it's very good. Later that day he sent me a card that mentioned how the dignity and respect from one's age goes away with a couple double vodkas. I laughed, because it's true, and also cause before my dad left my mum there'd be no way he'd be able to buy me a birthday card mentioning booze! My mum in complete ingnorance of my work schedule called me 5 times while I was trying to sleep, I didn't answer the phone just listended to the voice mail later. My work schedule was what it always is, and had talked with her about this last time we talked a few weeks ago, but didn't really expect her to remember.

After sleeping Bill came home from his work and I had my presents from him, he bought me a dover dual language version of Mencius, with translation by James Legge, from 1895. It's exactly the same version as my Confucian analects and made me very happy. He also got me a nice scroll for writing calligraphy on, and a copy of Gurps China, which I've been wanting for ages. I had a look through it and realised I do know more about China than they guy who wrote it. There were a couple parts that made me a little angry, for example when he said Chinese Buddhism was no differenet from Indian Buddhism and never came up with the diversity that Japanese and Tibetan Buddhism did! Um, hello Chan Buddhism originated in China! But it was lots of fun to look through, and made me want to run a million different games, and was very usefull for looking at stats and things and figuring out how a game would go. So that was fun!

Alice sent me a card that due to amazing new card technology had a recording of her playing her ukelele when I opened it! I was amazed at her playing and the advances in greeting cards! She also bought me two really nice books, one about mars, and one about the two French men who invented the metric system. Something I know Absoultly nothing about, but I love old science and so I'm very much looking forward to reading that!

Bill and I had a nice romantic dinner, and then had a nice romantic evening at home. (Though I did spend a little time conquering the galaxy). Tonight the mad drinking will commence.
