Balzac "Droll Stories"

Several months back Bill and I found a copy of Balzac's Les Contes Drolatiques with literally hundreds of illustrations by Gustave Dore. Unfortunately the French was too old for me to be able to read. So I managed to find a cheap Avon paperback of a few of the stories translated into English. I read them the other night as I needed to take a break from all the fighting in Three Kingdoms. While some of the stories were amusing it felt like far too much was being lost in the translation. I also felt that my knowledge of French history was letting me down as I had no idea who most of the people mentioned were. But there were lots of naughty Catholics and that was kinda fun. Unfortunately they didn't translate the story of the Succubus. Definitely a book that should be read in the original by people who know the history, which alas this time is not me!

昨天晚上我又看书。我看了英文书《Chinese Astrology》很有意思。我一点钟的时候去睡觉了。今天天气晴但是不太热了。我和智障者走路去公园。十点钟我要回家。我想看“Land of the Dead”还是“Star Wars”。但是我不知道如果我丈夫要太累了去看电影。
