The Deer and the Cauldron: Book 2 By Louis Cha.
The secound book of the series had, unfortunately, been edited and abridged by the translator. He said he left the plot in tact but nonetheless the book felt very jumpy. I'm not sure how much of this was just the strange plot, or the workings of the translator. It is such a shame that you can't even trust Oxford to translate something in it's entirety.

The complaints I made about the first book, having no women, did not hold true for the secound book at all. This book was filled with Kung Fu fighting girls of all description. These girls, Trinket would fall for one after the other, and then disappear from the plot line without a trace as the next one was introduced. Occasionally they would get a later reference. My favorite was Doublet, Trinket's maid who ended up dressing up as a boy so she could travel for most of the time. It was also interesting that despite falling for so many girls in the end Trinket, rather abruptly, Finally lost his virginity to the Princess, after some rather HARDCORE S&M! Very bizarre.

The book was enjoyable but there seemed to be too much going on, there were more secret societies introduced, all of which embraced Trinket as one of their leaders. His honors and acclaim grew with every encounter. There seemed to be no one who wasn't working for him by the end of the book. There also seemed to be much less descriptions of fighting in this book, which was rather disappointing for a martial arts novel! I do want to read the third and final part, I hate leaving a series unfinished. Unfortunately the library doesn't seem to have a copy, so I may end up having to buy it at some point.
