Two good things happened at work this week. I don't know if anything will come of them, but it was a good start. Tuesday I found our Chinese librarian collecting Chinese books in the West Stacks with a higher up from the library. I asked what they were doing and they were putting together a display for the upcoming Moon Festival events at the V&A. I made suggestions of books, mentioned just having a MA in Chinese history and was generaly enthusastic at them. The next day the man came up to me and asked me what my qualifications were again as he wanted to let Vicki (one of the head types) know. I told him if there was anything I could do related to Chinese I would be very happy to help.
Saturday I got to finally work on the counter all day at work. I must have signed up at least 5 new users to the library, answered inquiries, sat at the invigilation desk, handed people books. It was great! So much less work than running up and down stairs all day, and I got an extra hours worth of breaks!
So that's all very exciting. Still no interviews yet for any library assistant jobs. There doesn't seem to be a whole lot going at the moment. I've found a couple of library recruitment agencies to contact and send CVs too. I'm begining to admit defeat and perhaps consider working with Tards again. The money is actually slightly better than library assistant work. Its a job I know I can do well, I just don't want to do shift work anymore! I suppose I'll see how things go. There's just so many fun things I want to do at the moment and I want to save for holidays and more Chinese classes. I really need to be working full time at something!
