Right, so I decided that what I would do for the job interview I was offered was to send an email to the human resources assistant, and cc it to the librarians who were part of the interview pannel saying that I was interested in the job but unable to make the interview. So how does this sound?;


Thank you very much for your offer of an interview for the position of library assistant (ref. no BO722PN, BO769PC, &Bo8119PN). I am very interested in this position however I am unable to make the scheduled interview date as I will be out of town due to a prior family engagement from the 26th of October returning on the 30th. This trip was planned months in advance and I am, unfortunately, unable to reschedule.

I will be available for interview any other dates. I understand that due to the large number of candidates for this position you are not able to reschedule and I appreciate this. I just wanted to write and let you know that I am still interested if a further opportunity was to arise.
