Well it was a very nice few days at work this week. I got to see the original manuscript of Bleak House not to mention the corrected proofs and the original serialisation.
I also got to talk about plans for Chinese New Year with the Chinese librarian who liked my suggestion for doing a display on either Chinese Calligraphy or the history of the book in China. We're currently waiting to hear how many days we will be funded for!
Today I found 3-4 more library assitant jobs to apply for. The job I applied for last week which I would LOVE closed today so hopefully I'll hear from them soon.
I also found an organisation that promotes Chinese scholarship in the UK,
http://www.bicc.ox.ac.uk/
they're starting with 7 funded studentships next year. They've also included time to develop language skills in the program!!! I wish I could apply for next year but alas I need to wait for the stupid residency to return. If only there were some way around that! Its mostly modern China but there is also oppurtunity for "open" research. One of the professors, John Kieschnick, wrote one of the best books on Buddhism I read last year.

It would almost be tempting to go and study modern Chinese Buddhism, as opposed to early Taoism, to study with him! Still definitly something worth looking into, sounds like a good excuse to get back in touch with my old professor.
