Last night I had the scare of my life. Floyd (my cat/monster) started acting like he was going to be sick, and then after he was sick seemed to have something stuck in his windpipe, and started really strange hacking breathing that was very loud and very quick. I was terrified he was going to die. I tried feeding him water seeing if there was anything, looked online for kitty first aid, which suggested holding his rear legs in the air and slapping his chest. He was so compliant it was the scariest thing ever. The holding upside down thing seemed to help and his breathing returned to normal, and we gave him a bit of butter for a lubricant and within half an hour he seemed back to his normal self! I called my mother out of emergency, she gave some advice and then complained that we hadn't told her about not coming for christmas early enough and then proceeded to bitch about my sister. I told her that I'd spent half an hour panicing that my cat was about to die, and that I didn't need to hear her bitch about my sister because I needed to make sure my cat was okay and hung up. She really is the most selfish person I know. He seems fine today but I'm going to try and get him in for a check up anyway as I don't want it to happen again...

EDIT UPDATE
Vet said he had a heart murmur, and that was probably the reason for his trouble. Which is quite worrying! He is to be put on a strict diet and we need to send his past medical records to the new vet. He is now wandering round the flat looking for his food...
