In a Glass darkly by Seridan Le Fanu.

I read "Green Tea" a couple of years ago and while I did enjoy it, the style and the story were very good, I just couldn't quite get past the part where it was green tea that was making him crazy. It was just a tiny bit amusing. So I didn't re-read it this time. I found "The Familiar" to be a little disappointing, particularly after enjoying "Carmilla" so much. It was nice to see a continuation of the creepy walking home story, but I felt that there wasn't enough characterisation to carry me through the rest of the story. "Mr. Justice Harbottle" I did quite enjoy, I liked the court of the dead. Which naturally reminded me of the Chinese bureaucratic underworld. But my favourite story was by far "The Room in the Dragon Volant" it was fabulous! I loved the young man setting out on his gothic adventure, hoping that the Countess was the mans daughter so they could fall hopelessly in love, "Or better yet" be his wife so they could have a doomed tragedy. It was so well written, so visually pleasing, highly entertaining, and quite suspenseful. I loved the scenes at Versailles, particularly with the fortune tellers. I did suspect that everyone was up to no good, but even without the twist it was a truly delightful tale. I bought another collection of Le Fanu's ghost stories (edited by M.R. James) yesterday which I am very much looking forward to reading soon. (Especially if this weather holds)
