I came across this in my research of historical digitized sources. Completely searchable proceedings of the old bailey for 1674-1834. You can search by crime, for instance Sodomy or verdict such as public or private whipping... The proceedings were published and sold inexpensively and to a popular rather than a legal audience (according to the article I'm reading about setting up the site) so the language used is really great, reminiscent of 19th century broadsheets. You can also link to other 18th century documents, for instance in cases where street names are given in the proceedings you can then link to an 18th century map of the exact location, and link the people who appeared in the trials to other records of their lives. This means that you can look at the history from the view of individual people, rather than institutions. It is all very very cool. I like my homework!
