Last week shelving I got to look at lovely 100+ year old copies of Hong Lou Meng, my favorite novel ever. Today I found a Ming dynasty copy of an illustrated lives of Taoist Saints. It was amazing I only got through 3 of the 9 volumes. I'm going to have to use it as a source in my dissertation, even though it is later than the period I'm sudying. It can show how things progressed. All this has been tainted with an email from my boss this morning that said they were cutting my hours so now I'll only be working 10-4 instead of 9-5 on the weekdays. 4 hours a week gone, quite a significant ammount of money. But mostly I'm really going to miss shelving in the Chinese room and getting to spend my break pouring over those amazing old books! I know it's purely a financial descision and not a reflection of my work, but it still urks me. I shall continue the hunt for full time employment. Still no word yet about an interview.
