My Chinese history class started today. We're studying early imperial history, up to the fall of the Song. My proffesor, Patricia Ebrey, is amazing, I've read several books by her and was very impressed with them, why I wanted to take this course in the first place. Today I had the first class and she's just as nice a proffesor as author. I was so pleased as she's a scholar with a sense of humor even, she mentioned the 3 kingdoms video game and Hero!!! So great. I think it'll be a good class, though for the most part wasn't that impressed with the rest of the students. It's a big class 70 people and only about 15 seemed really interested in what we were studying, we went around to say why were there, maybe it was higher at 25 or so. But people were talking over the proffesor and wandering in and out the whole time. They all started to pack up before she was done talking. Things like that never happened at Evergreen, particularly in a senior level class.

But it should be interesting. I'm so excited about what I'm learning. At first I was nervous, but then realised I'd be able to talk to people about the Tang and Song, and Shang dynasties and then I got excited. I think it'll be good, and hopefully I'll get to talk to the teacher more, and do well and get a good recommendation for grad school and all that!
