I have reached the stage of my Masters when I'm wondering how on earth I'm going to manage to get it all done! Today I found out that I have about 4 weeks to get together an outline for my dissertation. Trouble is I don't normally like to do the outline till I've done the research. Fortunatly SOAS seems to have a bunch of friendly profesionals to help you with these problems who are providing workshops for the next three weeks on precisely that. Trying to whittle down the specific topic though is hard. I have managed three.

Taoism and women in the Tang
Nuns in Buddhism and Taoism (in the Tang)
Imperial women and their religious roles (in the Tang)

Hopefully I'll also be meeting with my nice professor for some helpful advice. I just don't want to be where I was in my undergraduate studies and end up with something no one's written on. I also realised my essay for his class is only 2000 words shorter than my dissertation!

This week I have another Chinese test, and a presentation for historical research methods. So much to do. I know I studied over Reading week, but I feel like I didn't get nearly as much done as I wanted too. It's just been hard with so much stress about money and jobs and things.

Bill has finally gotten a permenant job, alas it's a crappy job and the pay is very low. It'll almost be enough to pay the bills and eat. Thankfully my job should be able to make up the difference and have a little money for going out every now and then. But we're still going to need to borrow from my parents for some of this month's rent and living expenses next month until the paycheck comes, as the bank won't give us an overdraft till we've had the account for 2 years, even though when we opened it they said we could apply right away. Fuckers!

Life is busy and highly stressful, but at least I still love my course, which is good as at the moment I don't have a minute spare to do anything besides study.
