This article was posted on the antropologist list I'm on,
http://community.livejournal.com/anthropologist/966740.html#cutid1
where some new twist on documentary/reality paid $5000 for someone to start their own religion. It's a fairly interesting little article.
Though the religion they came up with sounds TERRIBLE, "living in the now" and "being satisfied with now" which they claim are based on New Age, Buddhist and Taoist beliefs. I don't know much about the New Age but that is SO NOT anything to do with Buddhism and Taoism! Buddhism looks at the now being a false reality and desire as something you need to free yourself from. Taoism is about sin causing sickness and purifying your mind and body to achieve transcendence. But then he read the I Ching in a coffee shop in 20 mintues and was totaly blown away so obviously knows much more than me about what he's talking about!
(GRRRR, initialy this was just going to be an informational post to EG but got annoyed by the whole misuse of Eastern religions so now I think I will post this to my regular journal instead).
