This morning I got my ID/library card and was able to check out library books! HORRAY! I got three books in Chinese, including a short story that is one of my favorites EVER and a large part of the reason I started to learn Chinese in the first place.
The morning was spent browsing the rare books in the special collections. I saw 15th century Aggripa, First editions of Machivelli, Galileo, Newton, Kepler and lots other early science. I found an amazing 17th century illustrated book on the East India Company's exhibition to China. I think that will definitely be my first choice for book of the month.
I also found some of the Beat stuff we have in the basement. This included a lot of first editions of Kerouac, lots of obscure little fanzines/magazines, and lots of Burroughs, including signed editions and the first edition of Junky, the double sided paperback (the other story was about a narcotics agent). It was pretty fantastic.
