The meeting this morning with my supervisor was nice but he didn't really give me the information I was hoping for. He didn't tell me what to cut, just wanted to know what my focus was and I feel like I don't know. My focus is, Can the Hagiography of Du Guangting show us about the religious lives of Taoist women during the Tang? Is there anything about it that reflects the Tang in particular? What reflects Tang Taoism? Or does it simply carry on the hagiographical traditions of the past? How does Celestial Master Taoism continue into the Tang and affect the position of women within Taoism? I feel like there are a couple of different ideas I could go with, Celestial Master tradition carried on in the Tang, the use of women's bodies in the path to immortality. He recommended I read a few articles again, hopefully they'll inspire me to help figure this out. I feel like I'm going to have to re-write everything. Things are not looking so good about getting to m:alice. Now, back to the library.
After emailing my professor about feeling a bit discouraged he wrote me back and said this,

There is no reason to feel discouraged, and I'm sorry if I gave you the impression I thought some major revision was in order. You've done an excellent job so far, and we're certainly not going to throw it away.

So that looks much better. Perhaps I might make it to the Intrepid Fox tommorow after all.
